For those of you that are unaware, Deb Casey, who was the owner and operator of ACDSpotlight, passed away earlier this year. Her passing was a great loss to all who knew her.
Deb was an avid dog enthusiast, breeder, and trainer. She began training her first dog when she was a very young child, putting her first obedience title on a dog in 1969. Schutzhund and competition obedience captured Deb’s attention for a number of years as she actively titled her dogs often with high scores including a number of High In Trials. She has also worked as a veterinary technician and trained/trialed Rottweilers in obedience for a top breeding kennel in Colorado. Deb was also on the Board of Directors of the Australian Cattle Dog Club of America and is past editor of their well-received Quarterly Magazine. For the past decade, Deb was the owner and editor of the online publication ACDSpotlight, which focused on the Australian Cattle Dog breed.
As an Australian Cattle Dog breeder, Deb bred very few litters – only 10. Of those litters however, she bred 20 Champions of record and some of those hold obedience, herding, and agility titles as well as some working in SAR, therapy and tracking. Deb believed in keeping only a very few dogs at a time and insisted that ALL be house dogs. She often stressed the importance of training and socializing puppies so they become pleasant lifetime companions.
Deb was dedicated, passionate, opinionated, and kind. She will be greatly missed.
